A car bomb that has gone off at the Glasgow International Airport has heightened tensions and security in airports around the US and in the United Kingdom.

Many say that we are in the beginning or in the middle of a new world war that will not be like any other. Fundamentalist Islam is trying to extort the civilized world into extreme security measures that will partially paralyze travel and other basic liberties that the west has grown accustomed to.  The destruction of the twin towers by Moslem extremists may have been the opening volley in this war. The subsequent wars in Afghanistan Iraq and possibly very soon in Iran paint a very grim picture as to the resolve of the free world to battle this modern foe.

The Recognition that indeed we are all in the midst of world conflict with all the implications has not been internalized by many. There are good reasons for this.

Firstly the classic army versus army that was the blueprint for other conflicts is missing here. The future conflict between The US and Iran will not change this perception inherently. This may be seen as another regional Middle eastern conflict not a part of a World War.

A World War against Extremist Islam if the world would recognize it as such would have some clear directives. There would need to be a complete embargo and blockade of any nation that fit the mode of an adversary in this world war. Iran would be a prime example of a country that could be brought to its knees if extreme sanctions were brought against it. This would mean nothing could be imported or exported from Iran excluding vital medicines or basic food stuffs. This would be a preamble to a tactical strike to destroy all nuclear facilities and much of the Iranian army. Other actions would include intensive detective work to make sure money does not flow into Terrorist organizations like the Hamas,EL Quadia, Jihad Islami and others.

If the world takes the pre WW2 attitude of attempting to appease this new threat the way Neville Chamberlin tried to. The initial advantage will certainly be in the hands of Fundamentalist Islam.

Recognizing the problem is the first step in reaching a solution
