Senior citizens given Condoms in New York City

It’s never too late and you are never too old.

The big apple has the glitz and glitter that no city really has; now the older crowd can feel that city hall thinks they are as young as they feel.  Many of these older men and especially women are embarrassed to ask for condoms even from their own Doctor. Some of  these people who have lost a spouse may engage in risky behavior with a chance encounter and risk HIV infection. It’s a mental switch that hard to make. A 80 year old woman is at risk if she doesn’t use a condom? That’s the new reality

The big apple is special in this area as well as New York City has the most HIV cases of any U.S. city — nearly 100,000. Nonetheless the spectacle of Senior citizens chuckling as they collect their vitamins with condoms is humorous indeed. A study last year by the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America projected that within the next decade, the majority of HIV-infected New Yorkers will be over 50.

In fact there is even an official New York condom that is being freely distributed to any and all. New York City is paying for all this to the tune of $720,000 which works out to about 4¢ a condom. It makes you wonder the incredible profit drug stores make on the sale of three condoms for $9.99.

In any case Condoms for seniors have taken New York by storm.

It won’t be long that they will be selling female condoms as well.
