Israeli airsrtikes on Terrorists in the Gaza strip heightens tensions
Is war imminent on Israeli’s southern border? Time will tell As Israel and Syria trade war barbs on Israel’s northern border the southern border is heating up. No one is sure when the present escalation will lead to a full scale incursion by the I.D.F. into the Gaza Strip. In response to an attack on an empty nursery and factory which caused heavy damage the I.D.F. has unleashed new methods of killing rocket launchers. They include short range high precision surface rockets. These rockets in conjunction with the latest surveillance equipment have killed at least 16 people in Gaza in the last few days. There is apparently a military need for a buffer zone of a few kilometers to push would be rocket launchers off the Israeli border. The Israeli government has yet to allow the Israeli military to create this Zone. The escalation from the Arab side of Gaza may stem from the grim economic situation in the strip and the desperation of some to break the blockade imposed by the west. There is fear of several undetected tunnels that may be used to enter Israel and carry out an attack similar to the attack that started the last war. A senior government spokesman was quoted as saying that the I.D.F. was planning a complete incursion into the strip and was in the midst of intensive preparations for that incursion. It is likely that the I.D.F. will attempt to completely reoccupy the strip in a complete surprise attack. This is likely to happen anytime from now to the next 3 months. War was predicted in the summer, the summer isn’t over yet. |
