Texas leads nation in executions
Texecuted Texas, which leads the nation in carrying out the death penalty, has executed the 400th person since the state resumed capital punishment in 1982. Johnny Ray Conner, 32, who was convicted in the shooting death of a convenience store owner in Houston in 1998, was on Wednesday the 21st man put to death by lethal injection in Texas this year. There have been 1,092 executions in the US since the Supreme Court lifted a moratorium on the death penalty in 1976. Gary Gilmore of Nevada was the first executed after 1976, his last words were “ lets do it “. Texas is easily the state that has executed more people that any other with Florida number 2 on the death list. Conner claimed innocence till the end but asked forgiveness for all as the drugs stopped his breathing and then his heart. If you do something violent Texas is probably not the best place to do it. |
