Halad Mashal speaks to CNN
The Head of Hamas Halad Mashal has been interviewed by CNN In a seemingly break with previous policy the reclusive Mashal has granted a interview with CNN. It is unclear why he has granted this interview now possibly the pressure the Hamas is under has brought Mashal more out in the open. Most people assume Mashal included that someday somehow he will be killed by Israel. None the less he looks in his interview calm and very relaxed. The eeriness of his demeanor in spite of clear direct threats to his life make this meeting with CNN very strange indeed. He seems dressed very well and in complete command of the English language though all his answers were in Arabic. It seems likely that Israel’s secret service will study these videos gaining insight into Mashal possible whereabouts. Its entirely possible that if there are new terrorist acts waged by Hamas Mashal will be targeted. Frankly if he is worried he doesn’t show it. All leaders of Hamas have been killed by Israel at one point of another. The most famous were the killing of the founder of Hamas Achmad Yassin and Dr. Rantisi a few years ago. Mashal himself was almost killed about ten years ago by poison in a botched hit by the Israeli Mossad. The Israelis were captured and released in exchange for the andidote that saved Mashals life. He is clearly living on borrowed time, he seems to like this arrangement. Eliminating Mashal would help Prime minister shore up some political support ahead of a committee that has criticized his leadership capabilities. There was one thing he said that most people can agree on. The upcoming talks in Washington in November will show no signs of success. |
