Syria and Israel skirmish

Here we go again – Syria fires on Israeli war plane

Apparently there seems to be military activity between Israel and Syria that Israel did not anyone to know about. Syria on the other hand was interested in making public the incident that allegedly happened over Syrian airspace. The question is why.

Why Israel would enter Syrian air space now is unclear in light of statements made by the Israeli defense minister of the lessening of tensions between the two countries. It is possible that the flight was of a reconnaissance nature and the pilot by accident broke the sound barrier. It is also possible that Israel would like to warn Syria by some saber rattling for whatever reason. Syria on the other hand probably realizes its relative weakness in a confrontation with Israel and is likely being pushed by Iran into making confrontational statements.

This incident is indicative of how close the Middle East is from full scale war.  Israel may have decided to shake up the leader of Syria Bashar Assad as they did during the last Lebanon war. Then War planes went right over the presidential palace in an effort to rattle the Syrian leader.

The Syrians have been saying for a while that they will take back the Golan heights by force at some point. They should be believed that they will at least try.
