Summit in Annapolis looms

As if Olmert didn’t have enough worries

Israel’s Parliament the “ Knesset “  has preliminarily passed a law that would make any future division of Jerusalem highly unlikely. In a clear message to Israeli and Palestinian negotiators any realignment of the city will need a full 2/3 vote to pass. Under present and probable political realities garnering such a majority seems impossible.

This may throw a wrench into the entire summit. The Palestinians have said repeatedly that Jerusalem or “ el kuds “ as they call it will need to be the capital of their future state.

This will entail an Israeli pullback to pre 1967 borders. Israel will not do this and the Palestinians won’t accept otherwise.

To a layman it sounds like a stalemate that no amount of diplomacy can solve.

It may start dawning on some the futility of a summit if someone actually decides on holding one.

There seems to be a slight lull in terrorist and war activity.

It’s the lull before the storm.
