Baseball, its dark

The games greatest hitter and pitcher are accussed of taking steriods.
Baseball, its darkest hour.

Not since 1919 with the breaking of the Black Sox scandal has the national pastime been at such a low point. When things seemingly could not get worse as Barry Bonds was being indicted for lying to a grand jury, they did. The Mitchell report has accused some of the best players in the game of cheating. Among them the greatest pitcher of his day Roger Clemens.

It seems incredible that the role models that so many youth idolize and worship could be plain cheating criminals. Pete Rose has been vilified and denied entrance to baseballs hall of fame for gambling. Granted this is not role model behavior but Rose never threw a game and always bet on his own team to win. Roger Clemens Barry Bonds Miguel Tejada Andy Petite are much worse. They  have destroyed the game of Baseball. There is nothing that can be done to rectify the damage that the steroid scandal has done to the game. There will always be suspicion with all the vigorous checking mechanisms that this or that player has an illegal advantage. Mark McGwire is still suspected of using illegal steroids to initially break the single season home run record. He has been denied entrance to Baseballs hall of fame.

Baseball would do the sports world a favor by doing the following things.

1. completely cancel any awards statistics of any player found guilty of drug use
2. deny these players entrance or access to any baseball facility for life
3. recommend ( where possible ) jail time for steroid users
4. have a one year moratorium on major league games ( minor leagues could continue )

There is no other way.
