there has been a steady drop in crime in New York city but new yorkers seem to be shocked at the brutal slaying of the two auxilliary officers. New york has had its share of brutal murders over the years and there have ben calls to bring back the death penalty in the hopes that it will be a deterent for future extreme violent crime. Each state decides on its own to implement the death penalty, New york is among the the states that presently has not reinstated capital punishment. Executions were carried out at sing sing and were abolished when the supreme court decided that capital punishment was cruel and unusal punuishment making it unconstitutonal and therefore ilegal.

A Utah convict by the name of Gary Gilmore who insisted on being killed was executed by firing scuad to usher in the new era of Executions in different States. Texas has led the nation in exectutions and the runner up is Florida.
