The Israeli border town of Sederot has come under severe missile attack.
Israels policy of restraint seems to be escalating the cross border violence from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. The city of Sederot has come under severe attack in the last 24 hours as Kassam surface to air missiles have rained down on the border city. Israels unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza strip was hailed among decision makers as a disengagement from Aza, a security reprieve. It has turned into a security nightmare as these missiles now are fired from places that were under Israeli security control in the strip. Israel thus far has not reacted to the latest onslaught siteing tactical reasons for not sending the Israeli army into the Gaza strip. This is only temporary as it has become very clear that violent conflict is a question of time. This conflict will in all probability will involve the Hizbullah in the north and will be stage 2 of the previous war last summer. For this War Israel has been intensively training as mistakes from the previous war have been studied. The Hizbullah and Hamas are also intensifying their preparations modernizing their army and adding to their arsenal. The latest missle barrage may be the first shot in this new war. When restraint fails wars generally ensue. Often the restraint causes the war. |
